On a Bird and Bug walk in the nearby woods, with some of the local folks, I spotted this group of Ammophila wasps. There were about six such groups of these wasps all in close proximity to each other on these long seeded grass stems under the shade of the pine trees. It was about 8:30 am in the morning and still a bit chilly. This group, if I counted right, has about 27 individuals. Apparently this was a communal sleepover spot for these wasps. The wasps did not seem to be bothered by the closeness of our group, or by myself as I photographed them. Later when we passed by, on our return around 11:00 am, they were all gone. I did collect one specimen, of which I have yet to photograph. A species ID would be great if possible - thanks!
