Copestylum mexicanum ? Frit Fly - Copestylum mexicanum - male

Two different flies?
This one appears to have smaller eyes than 828118.

Could well be.
They often come in small groups and don't seem to have solid flight plans on file.

Copestylum mexicana, Mexican cactus fly, a syrphid.
There are a lot of these out and about now, and they seem to prefer yellow flowers. Bush sunflowers are a fave.

Frit flies are tiny by comparison.
