Great Spangled Fritillary - Speyeria cybele - Male
Mineral County, West Virginia, USA
July 2, 2004

Moved

Based on Butterflies Through Binoculars
(1) This appears to be Speyeria cybele. It can be distinguished from the other two similar species pictured there by not having a black bordered forewing (atlantis), and by not having a spot near the base of the forewing (aphrodite). All of them appear to occur in WV.
