beetle in creek bed - Cicindelidia punctulata
Prescott, AZ, Arizona, USA
December 31, 1969

Moved
Moved from Cicindela.

not 6-spotted
Cicindela sexguttata is not found in Arizona, and it looks different than this beast.

I believe this is a Cicindelidia. Perhaps this is the taxon currently known as Cicindela (Cicindelidia) punctulata chihuahuae? I'm sure Dan can comment further.

Right on
Exactly Ben, that is a punctulata. As you know, I don't recognize the subspecies, but that color form has been called chihuahuae in the past. You gotta love those southwestern tigers! - Dan

Six-Spotted Tiger Beetle?
I'm not positive, but it matches well with other images in the guide. I guess the spots can be variable. See guide page.
