What kind of Katydid is this? - Pterophylla camellifolia - Havelock, Craven County, North Carolina, USA August 23, 2013 Size: 2"-2.5"
My fiancé found this Katydid while walking on base at MCAS Cherry Point. We observed it for a little bit in a critter keeper, and then released it into our backyard. It spent most of the time cleaning the pads on its feet with its mouth. It appears to have an ovipositor, but was very short and stick-like compared the ones I've seen on this website already. I assume it's a female. It has a pearl-like area in between its wings on the front. I didn't hear it make any noise within the time that we had it.
