missed them this year

Nice photo! We had lots of Painted Ladies last year in Durham, NC, This year I can recall only one report of them. Seeing many or just a few?

very few
I've seen very few Vanessa at all this year. One in early May (uploaded the picture) and one in early July. Also had American Lady on maybe 5 days (3 one day, rest singles) and about the same for Red Admiral. Plus a couple more that didn't stay long enough to say which lady. That's about 66% less sightings than last year, but I was also out way more this year. I'd imagine that I would have had double to triple the sightings last year with comparable effort, so that's really a huge dropoff.
