Bronze Jumper - Eris militaris - male

Bronze Jumper - Eris militaris - Male
N40 03.312 W82 53.780, Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio, USA
August 22, 2006
Compare to drawings at salticidae.org.

I rotated the palp slightly in an effort to clearly show the curved embolus, which distinguishes this Eris from others found in Ohio, especially rufa.

Scale bar is .2mm.

Or E. flavis?
Jeff,

I recently ran into this: , which leads me to wonder if this might be E. flavis, which is more likely to be found in the region. Comparing the palps for the two possibilities, they both seem to be very similar: http://salticidae.org/salticid/Diagnost/eris/flava-m.htm and http://salticidae.org/salticid/Diagnost/eris/milita-m.htm.

What do you think?

White band or not?
This image seems to show the white band below the eyes, but it is very subtle:

Flava seems to be more restri
Flava seems to be more restricted to lakes and oceans for some reason, but I've not seen a preference mentioned anywhere other than by the distribution maps.

Anyway, there are hairs, but no white scales on the clypeus of this guy. I also just added another view of the left palp.

If you haven't already, take a look at the descriptions in this article by Maddison.

Will do; thanks for the tip.

No trouble
and just so you know, I don't mind being second-guessed. I hadn't considered flava, so this forced me to prove the ID to myself again, which was a good exercise.
