Unknown Burrowing beetle with the hind end of a cricket, the head of a beetle/cicada - Gryllotalpa gryllotalpa Redding, Fairfield County, Connecticut, USA September 2, 2013 Size: 2.5-3 in
Found this huge bug swimming in an almost snakelike fashion on top of the water at the shore of the river on my property right after a huge rainstorm flooded all the insects out. The beetle was extremely smart avoiding me at all costs and burrowing under the grass where the water line was. Can someone please tell me what this is so that my mom stops annoying me about researching the thing...it fascinated us both!!!! P.S at the end of the bugs hind end he has two probes coming off in a V shape like an cricket.
