Large Tarantula Hawk - Pepsis

Large Tarantula Hawk - Pepsis
Laguna Mountains, San Diego County, California, USA
July 15, 2004
Size: around 40 mm
This type of Tarantula Hawk is in the mountains of San Diego County. It has a blue-greenish body (not visible in the picture), lighter overall than most other Pepsis that I have seen. Would like to know species, if anyone knows. This is the largest Pepsis that I have seen in Southern California.

Is this Pepsis grossa?
which I think is the new name for P. formosa. Bordered wings would seem to be very distinctive, plus note the small light spot in the forward wings.

I'm pretty sure this is pepsi
I'm pretty sure this is pepsis formosa. I love pepsis, they are magnificent. the best place to find them are desert milkweed and acacia trees.
