I think
this is actually a fly --- a "moth fly" from the family
Psychodidae. They often come to house lights after dark just as moths do.

And you're right --- they do look moth like with all those hairs on their wings and body.

 
Wings
I should have counted the wings. That would have told me that it was not a moth.
