Colorful woodland web spider - Araneus nordmanni

Colorful woodland web spider - Araneus nordmanni
23000 SW Grand Ronde RD., Grand Ronde, Yamhill County, Oregon, USA
September 8, 2013
spider spinning web across path in our meadow/woodland. Later we saw a beetle fly into the web and the spider immediately rush over and presumably paralyze it. The spider was yellow and black although it looks washed out in this image.

Curious
Are you the Linda Fink that wrote about venom spitting in the green lynx spider back in '84? I just recognized your name and thought I would ask! =) (The paper was fresh in my mind.)

Same name, different person
Nope, not me. Interesting that there is another Linda Fink with a bug fixation. ;-)

.
Oh, wow, that is really wild!

Moved
Moved from ID Request. This is very likely Araneus nordmanni. They are more often a white color, but I think sometimes can be yellow. Nice find.

Araneus nordmanni
Thank you!

Any chance
of a dorsal image?

yellow and black spider
Could not get my camera to focus that direction but will submit a very blurry dorsal view with colors all wrong. It was a bright yellow and black spider, so what looks white in the photo was really yellow.
