Would like to know what species and sex this is. I thought perhaps Bombus californicus, but there are no black hairs on the abdomen.

Note that black hairs on putative californicus can be very inconspicuous, i.e. few, scattered, and hard to see even on specimens viewed under the microscope.

Any chance this is a male appositus?

 
Not an expected locality
Also in appositus the hind tibiae should have black pile
