Mystery caterpillar - Halysidota tessellaris

Mystery caterpillar - Halysidota tessellaris
Green Pond, Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, USA
September 12, 2013
Size: about 1" long
We saw this caterpillar about 11 am, on the handrail of the steps to our back porch. Very furry and pretty, but we didn't touch it just in case it stings. I've never seen one like it. It appears similar to some in genus Halysidota that I've seen here, but a different color.
