I believe this to be a Ammophila spp. The pedicel looks correct but the abdomen has less orange coloration than other photos I have seen. Perhaps there is just a lot of color variation.

Ammophila sp.
Your ID is correct. Yes, there is a good deal of color variation, and males often have less red markings than the females. Females also have spines on the front legs for digging. I'd say this is a male.
