looks like another Anoplius in the subgenus Pompilinus... perhaps A. subcylindricus... perhaps not.

Yes...
good series of photos. Getting it down to subgenus was very easy (great fourth picture!). All the females of this subgenus are very difficult, even the orange-marked ones. It could be A. subcylindricus, but it could also be something else, as you said. There are a lot of species, even more than given in Evans paper, so it's probably only safe to make a call with a specimen.

i tried to give as many angles as possible, on the off chance it could be identified. after i looked through the Evans key, i checked the Pompilid project, and there are a number of species not in Evans... i was leaning toward A. subcylindricus because i think it is quite common around these parts, and fits the description fairly well. anywho, i appreciate all the information.
