Unidentified insect - Dilophus spinipes
Cheesequake State Park, Middlesex County, New Jersey, USA
September 21, 2013
I found this distinctive insect at the border between salt marsh and an open field. There were fairly large numbers of it at several points along the edge of the marsh. The flower is Euthamia caroliniana/tenuifolia (coastal flat-topped goldenrod).
