Golden Silk Spider - Nephila clavipes - female

Golden Silk Spider - Nephila clavipes - Female
Gilchrist County, Florida, USA
October 27, 1990
Size: at least 1 1/2"
No additional Florida images are needed, but thought these scanned images may be of interest (sorry for the lens flare, it was my first experience with photography and a new macro capability).

When we lived in Gilchrist Co., I was fascinated to watch these spiders mature as the summer went on. They were everywhere, and known to us as Banana Spiders. As a side note to Jeff on the location...we lived in the woods between Trenton and High Springs, about 7 miles south of Ginnie Springs.

Please feel free to frass these if no value to the guide is added.

Yup...
Banana spiders! I grew up in Florida and saw these everywhere. I loved them! They are large, and their webs are very sturdy. Cool spiders!
