Wing-necked flying thing - Stephanitis pyrioides

Wing-necked flying thing - Stephanitis pyrioides
Herndon, Fairfax County, Virginia, USA
October 1, 2006
Something more interesting-looking than the typical midge or gnat at this size... For size reference, that is the tip of an azalea leaf that it's on. What is it?

Lacebug
Ashely, I believe it's a species of lacebug.

Fascinating!
Looks like you guys are right. I've never heard of them before. Since it was on an azalea, I wonder if it's Stephanitis pyrioides: the azalea lace bug.

Stephanitis pyriodes
Correct. That is the azalea lace bug, Stephanitis pyriodes

A Lace Bug
Small and does resemble stained glass indeed.

Beautiful!
It looks like stained glass, doesn't it?

Sorry, I can't help with the ID.
