Size: ~22mm length
Attracted to black light. Looks to me like a Prominent but I have been very wrong with these kinds of moths before: In fact, I cannot detect a good match among the Prominents, and would appreciate help.

I think I got it: We were so close! It very likely is Hodges #7998 Lochmaeus manteo, the Variable Oakleaf Caterpillar Moth.

Thanks for the heads up. I have looked at them numerous times too and even posted one that was incorrect. I don't have a good handle on these. Variable IS the word!

I am persuaded by the PM line that is jagged with sharp points rather than "scalloped," the reniform spot and the terminal area. I hope Maury will make good on his promise to "be back later" and perhaps settle this.

For what it's worth
I think it looks like a Hodges #7999 Double-lined Prominent. I had one ID'd for me recently. I liked picture 672614 in reference to yours.

Thank you, Ann, for the suggestion. I actually looked at the Double-lined several times and then discounted it because it did not seem right. Perhaps I shouldn't have.
