Botfly face - Cuterebra americana

Botfly face - Cuterebra americana
Conway, Faulkner County, Arkansas, USA
September 25, 2013
Size: 30mm
Three days ago, on my back porch I saw my wife shooing off what looked like a large bumblebee from my door entry. The insect flew over to my table umbrella and revealed itself to be only the 4th adult Bot I had ever seen. It promptly flew off. Today it returned to the front porch. Where it was tough light for photos and the longer lens was on the cam. I managed a bad face and a murky side shot. It appears to be in Cuterebra. I think all the Bots I have ever seen in my state have been in this group. I leave the guesses for anything beyond this to someone more expert than I.
