Midge?

Midge?
Monhegan Island, Lincoln County, Maine, USA
September 2, 2006
A Midge perhaps?

Moved
Moved from Biting Midges.

Super Longshot
Take a look here.

Maybe
If proved to be from marine habitat and not from fresh water near a marine habitat, quite likely Halocladius. Otherwise, it appears consistent but the visible details are insufficient to confirm. I need to find a description of Telmatogeton, another East Coast marine midge.

Not Telmatogetoninae
This is not Telmatogetoninae, which has short fourth tarsomeres.

Monhegan Island
Monhegan Island is a small island 10 miles of the coast of Maine. It has a small shallow fresh water marsh and a couple tiny bogs. Good luck.

Thanks
The previous ID has been nagging at me for a while now.

Male black fly?
Wondering if this is a black fly. Moving to suborder category for now. Image is clear, and an ID should come eventually.
