Size: 40 mm
Size estimated--about 25 mm body length, 40 mm to wingtips. For species identification, see discussion under this photo:


Patrick Alexander (see comments) informs us that the plant is a Tidestromia, see, for instance, Flora of North America, USDA Plants. A common name used by the USDA is Honeysweet. (Thanks, Patrick!)

This photograph was taken during a field trip as part of the 2006 Texas Butterfly Festival in Mission, Texas. (Photo taken at the Rancho La Lomitas preserve. Many thanks to the Trevinos for their hospitality.)
