SINA, and in particular, compare ovipositors of D. castanea and D. brevihastata:
I can's see a difference between the diagrams. Both species would be expected to occur in southern Texas, based on the maps at SINA. Others that might be expected are
D. emarginata,
D. gladiator, and maybe some others. Hmm. I like the abdominal pattern of D. emarinata, at least in the male shown
here at SINA, but it also looks pretty close to that on the (faded) specimen of
D. castanea. Obviously, a tough group, and I'm happy to have it to at least the genus level.
