Nitidulid -
Caplothorax lugubris
Brookings, Brookings County, South Dakota, USA
September 18, 2006
Size: 5.2mm
Found under some rotting melons. I'm not so great at identifying nitidulids. Any help would be appreciated.

not as elongate
The specimen on the site you cite seems to be too wide and compact to be this species. I do think yours looks a lot like one I photographed that's hanging out on the genus page waiting for a species ID.
Andrew Cline, who has IDed many of our nits on bugguide will rarely ID a Carpophilus from a photo. I take it they are a difficult genus.
