Florida Tick - Rhipicephalus sanguineus

Florida Tick - Rhipicephalus sanguineus
Ormond Beach, Volusia County, Florida, USA
October 6, 2013
Three images will be attached to this submission. Here's a tick photographed in Ormond Beach, Florida (Volusia county). The little bloat was trolling the edge of our couch, inside. Yes, we have a dog -- but haven't had any signs of ticks on him. This is the first tick we've seen in our new home, but I do know the previous people had a couple of dogs. My best guess is Brown dog tick, Rhipicephalus sanguineus (general appearance, indoor trekkiness, etc). Just a guess though. More importantly, I know there's a hell of a lot I *don't* know about ticks. Hoping the good Tick Masters of bugguide can help a brother out. What say you?

Looks right
I'd call it Rhipicephalus sanguineus. Not seeing any markings and the capitulum looks to be the right shape.
