Bidessus question
Hi Tim!

I have visited the website you told about and found out, that as in our fauna, the former genus Bidessus has been split in N-America.

Now to tell which species belongs in which genus - and to ID any of these small Dytiscids - is for a specialist of the family, but not for me.

I can only state that I was able to recognize the pronotal sulci extending on elytral base (characteristic for "Bidessus") in the pics of the genera Uvarus, Bidessonotus, Liodessus, and (but with doubt) in Neobidessus.

regards,

Boris

Thanks for looking
I previously ruled out Liodessus, as they are stated to have a transverse stria on the head behind the eyes.

FYI, Epler's Identification manual for the water beetles of Florida (Coleoptera: Dryopidae, Dytiscidae, Elmidae, Gyrinidae, Haliplidae, Hydra has been for me another helpful source of on-line Dytiscid information, as many of the species it covers range widely up the east coast of NAmer. see ftp://ftp.dep.state.fl.us/pub/labs/biology/biokeys/beetles.pdf
