Twilight Darner - Gynacantha nervosa - male

Twilight Darner - Gynacantha nervosa - Male
Venice, Sarasota County, Florida, USA
November 2, 2006
Last one, promise. I was very excited this morning to get a living female. There were more than 20 of these last night flying over my head feeding around an hour before sunset.

Moved
Moved from Phantom Darner.

Hang on
This is not a Phantom, but another dusk-feeding southeastern specialty, Twilight Darner (Gynacantha nervosa), and it's a male. I am jealous of this one too. I saw these this spring on a trip to the Panhandle, and spent 20 minutes trying to net one in the headlights of our rented car, to no avail. Nice photo.

Oh my gosh!
Now I see the difference in the Phantom female I posted. She had green stripes on the top of her thorax and this one doesn't. Thank you so much Cliff! I gave you credit for ID correction on my webshots site. Thanks again.
