Woodlice - Oniscus asellus

Woodlice - Oniscus asellus
Hudson, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
November 1, 2006
Size: about 14-15mm sans cerci
I normally ignore sowbugs and their relatives but the size and markings caught my eye for some reason (probably seeing images of different types on bugguide) so I brought them home for a photo shoot.

sow bugs
Just because no one has given names for them on BugGuide, so I'll do it: these belong to the species Oniscus asellus (L.)

Excellent!
Thank you, Ferenc. I'm glad you're helping us out. I think we have more European specialists assisting us than from Canada and the US :-)

Thank you! :)
Thanks very much!

It's a pleasure for me to help out people that meet this strange "bugs" somewhere 10 000 kms away from Budapest! :) Most isopods in the USA are of European origin, so it's clear why I'm able to identify them.

So, I'll keep on visiting BugGuide time to time and I'll add some comments whenever I can! Best wishes: Ferenc
