Explanation of Names
patronym for
John George Children, "l'un des membres les plus distingués de la Société entomologique de Londres" ("one of the most distinguished members of the
Entomological Society of London")
Identification
Form rounded, slightly oval, strongly convex.
Head and pronotum black (E. c. childreni, both sexes, and E. c. guexi, most females), or pronotum black with pale margin (E. c. guexi, males and some females).
Legs black (E. c. childreni, both sexes, and E. c. guexi, females) or yellow (E. c. guexi, males)
Elytra yellowish orange to red with black markings, as follows:
- Large spot on each elytron at rear of body (apical)
- Some with additional small black apical spot spanning suture
- Some with additional large black spot on each elytron from middle forward, not attaining base, with somewhat straight edge running forward at 45deg away from suture middle
- Spots may or may not all be connected by narrow black bands, creating "circle of spots"

Aphids and scale insects.
