Tiny Red Thing

Tiny Red Thing
Alexandria, Fairfax County, Virginia, USA
May 18, 2012
This was the only decent shot I got - it wouldn't stop moving. Very tiny - that's a Brugmansia leaf it's on, showing trichomes, we're so close. What the heck is this??

Moved from ID Request.

Tube-tailed Thrips (Phlaeothripidae)
An immature individual. None of the red tube-tailed Thrips on BugGuide have been identified past family, though.

Thanks!
I had a sneaking suspicion it was something thrips-y, but they're a strange bunch. The next time I see one, I'll have to try to catch it.
