Beige and brown patterned bug swimming in the pool - Short-winged mole cricket -
Neoscapteriscus abbreviatus
-
Boca Raton, Palm Beach County, Florida, USA
November 2, 2013
Size: 3 inches
Fell off the pool screen into the pool and started swimming to get out. It almost looks like it has two small wings that would not be of any use.

Your's is more strongly patterned with dark color than many of the ones that are shown in photos available on the internet.

A short-winged mole cricket?
Could this be Scapteriscus abbreviatus? I believe they can be found in this area of Florida but I can't find images that look like mine. It certainly has short wings.
