Size: 17mm
Found strolling across a country road. Stuck his abdomen up when I touched him. Fortunately, I was wearing gloves so that I could carry him home without getting bitten.

This is Ocypus nitens, a non-native rove beetle which appears to be spreading west across NY. This is the westernmost record thus far.
