Walking Stick - Diapheromera - male

Walking Stick - Diapheromera - Male
Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park, Hidalgo County, Texas, USA
October 20, 2006
Size: 90 mm
This was found on a lighted wall and relocated to a (4 inch) landscape timber post for photography. The abdominal clasper-like structure indicates it is a male, I believe.

Well, e-mail exchanges with Josh Rose indicate this is not a Megaphasma, but a Diapheromera, likely either velii eucnemis, or tamaulipensis. Both of these are described by Helfer (1), and I may be able to key to the species--stay tuned. Moved to the genus for now.
