Elongate-bodied Springtail - Orchesella villosa

Elongate-bodied Springtail - Orchesella villosa
Seattle, King County, Washington, USA
November 7, 2006
Size: 5mm
I go out looking for globular springtails, and I find only elongate-bodied ones. This one was differently-marked than the usual ones in my yard. I tried to sharpen the photo as much as I could, but it was kind of dark outside.

Moved from Orchesella.

Orchesella villosa
Hi Cheryl. The recent finding of Jim of a new Orchesella for the guide motivated me to look again at your specimen. This is clearly a third species for the guide.

Awesome!
Thank you for the ID!

Orchesella
Dear Cheryl. You have found this before. The markings are always a bit different in each specimen. But the general pattern matches Orchesella villosa. Put it temporary under Orchesella, untill we have more detailed pictures. Compare with those of Tom.

Thank you
I'll learn eventually!:)
