Male trapdoor - Aptostichus stanfordianus - male

Male trapdoor - Aptostichus stanfordianus - Male
Thornewood OSP, San Mateo County, California, USA
November 6, 2013
Size: 12-13mm
This spider, another new one, was sitting at the edge of the oak-lined trail when we stopped to check out some nearby large occupied spider burrows around 8:30 PM. It quickly played dead and pulled in its legs, staying that way for a long time, and didn't run after we released it.

ID by M. Hedin (his "bet")
