Beetle - Anomala orientalis

Beetle - Anomala orientalis
Pennypack Restoration Trust, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, USA
June 29, 2004
Is this a chafer? Thanks for any help.

Southeastern PA

Oriental beetle
Thank you both.

Oriental Beetle
You're both right! This looks like Anomala orientalis (the species apparently has been recently assigned to the genus Exomala), most often called Oriental Beetle but other common names include Asiatic Beetle and Spotted Chafer. A photo and lots of info are at:

(second-last entry on the page).

Scarab beetle
This is a scarab beetle (note lamellate antennae, a hallmark of scarabs), probably Anomala sp.
