Spider Beetle - Ptinus fur - female

Spider Beetle - Ptinus fur - Female
Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
October 2, 2006
Size: about 3 mm
Found this beetle inside a plastic bag of roll insulation that had been in a compartment fequented by squirrels from time to time. (Probably one or more had nested in there recently.) It was playing dead and I was unsure whether it was alive or dead. I popped it into my ever-ready pocket vial for a photo session later. It came alive for part of the shoot.

Due to the vivid color and bold markings I think this is a male of the Ptinus genus.
