Minty Midge? - Tanytarsus

Minty Midge? - Tanytarsus
Fullerton Arboretum, Fullerton, Orange County, California, USA
November 12, 2006
Found among the reeds, in the company of small flies. Almost translucent, but with vivid eyes. Any ideas?

Yes
Yes, you're right, Chironomidae. The posture of the front legs, and their length, is one give-away. With this green coloration I would think first of genus Tanytarsus.

Thanks, Stephen...
particularly for the info on the legs. I'll check out Tanytarsus.
