My Thanks
My thanks to you Kelsey J.R.P.Byers for this likelihood. Once I'd begun to seriously consider the Syrphidae, the most probable family seemed to be that of the Eristalis. Actually it looks - I think - a lot like the European Eristalis tenax, which I gather was introduced over here. Anyway, many thanks.
