Copper and Purple Beetle - Carabus nemoralis

Copper and Purple Beetle - Carabus nemoralis
Pickering, Durham, Ontario, Canada
September 8, 2006
Size: 1/2 inch +
Found this handsome beetle drowned in a small container after a heavy rain. Have never seen one quite like it before. Help with ID appreciated.

Carabus nemoralis
It is a Ground Beetle: species Carabus nemoralis. It's a quit common species (at least in Québec, I don't know the situation of this species in Ontario), but we don't often notice them cause they are mostly active at night.

Very nice colors
in your photo of Carabus nemoralis.

Carabus nemoralis
Thanks Jim and Pierre-Marc. I though this one very handsome.
