Bark louse - Valenzuela

Bark louse - Valenzuela
Stoddard, Hillsboro County, New Hampshire, USA
November 15, 2006
Size: 3.5mm to wingtip

Just 2 genera
Too bad all the families weren't as easy to get the genus narrowed down.

Valenzuela sp.
Hi Tom, I think we can safely call these brown/red eyed Caeciliusidae, Valenzuela sp. Conveniently this family has only two genera in the US and Canada. The family Xanthocaecilius has two species with yellow and green eyes respectively (see photo#87070). Therefore this is individual is from the other genus Valenzuela.

Thanks Philip
It's nice to be getting identifications in this family.

Family Caeciliusidae
I have a hard time IDing this family to species, for some you need to look at the mouth parts. The family is quite distinctive thanks to its Cubital Loop (U shaped vein on top-middle of forewing) and the honey coloured wings. I like to call them "Honey Wings".
