Melanoplus differentialis
I agree with Eric's identification on this one. The almost uniform pattern is pretty common on nymphs of this species as well. Very similar to one taken a week earlier. Wonder if they are the same one? If so it grew fast, this is 5th instar and that one was 3rd.

Nymph.
This is a nymph, but quite possibly a specimen of the differential grasshoppher, Melanoplus differentialis. It has the herringbone pattern on the hind femur that is typical of that species.
