Hemiptera eggs
I'm not an expert, but those eggs look to me very much like the eggs of a squash bug (a type of true bug from the order Hemiptera). Squash bugs (of the genus Anasa)seem to be common garden "pests" throughout the US. This photograph of their eggs closely matches yours:
