native to the western hemisphere, of neotropical origin (Middle America or n. South America), now distributed throughout warm regions of Europe and Africa, and in some regions of Asia, but not in Australia(1)(2)
Habitat
in cold temperate regions can survive winter conditions only in a heated environment(3)
