Ants, scales, and phorid fly? - Camponotus floridanus

Ants, scales, and phorid fly? - Camponotus floridanus
Royal Palm Beach Pines Natural Area, Palm Beach County, Florida, USA
November 18, 2006
Here the fly moved to its second victim. The ant on the left was the first to be attacked. I was unable to get any images of the fly actually injecting its eggs. The fly hit with bullet-like speed. When it was all over and the fly moved on, there was only one ant remaining on the palm frond. The entire sequence lasted about one minute.
