Ants, scales, and phorid fly? - Camponotus floridanus

Ants, scales, and phorid fly? - Camponotus floridanus
Royal Palm Beach Pines Natural Area, Palm Beach County, Florida, USA
November 18, 2006
Here is the fly and the two victims. The fly hit the two approximately ten times. I was surprised at the repetitive hits per ant. I had thought that the fly would only put one egg per ant.

Florida Carpenter ants (Camponotus floridanus)
There doesn't appear to many images here on the guide of these ants, so I'm placing them here in guide. Three of these images are placed in Camponotus (no guide page for species yet) and three are placed in Phoridae.
