Identification
Elytra with a large basal nude patch, otherwise densely covered with pale recumbent hairs; tufts of dorsal surface almost black (combination is diagnostic)
Range
e NA (QC-FL to ON-IA-TX); Bahamas - Map (3)(4)(5)(6), absent along Gulf and s. Atlantic plains
Food
Hosts: Hickory, elm sprouts, dead Persea, sour gum, tupelo (Nyssa sylvatica), sweetgum joists and studding(4)
See Also
T. klagesi is the only other species which the bare basal patch on elytra, but the tufts are brown, and the covering hairs yellowish
