Galls on Rhus aromatica - Lestodiplosis

Galls on Rhus aromatica - Lestodiplosis
Omaha, Henry Doorly Zoo, Douglas County, Nebraska, USA
December 23, 2013
Size: Insect 1mm
I cut a branch off of the Rhus aromatica and brought it in to rear and there were several of these 1mm or less insects in the bag. I could not get a very good photo through the microscope because they are so small. However I have the bag with the insects in it if anyone would like to look at them closer I can send them out. The branch molded a bit and so too did the insects.

Moved from Unidentified Galls.
Dr Gagné says: "The adult has the look of a Lestodiplosis, quite probably a predator of the mites. Inasmuch as the adults are not in good condition, I think that identification should suffice."
