I hate these things. Their bite hurts and I've sat on their mounds on more than one occasion. I know they are fire ants, but are they the imported kind from South America?

It is hard to tell from a photo which species they are but I would say there is a good chance they are "imported" I know of no naturally occurring species in that area which are that dark.
