This is in no way related to Lucanus elaphus, I could literally google "Lucanus placidus" and find this EXACT beetle!

I Have seen Maybe a hundred specimens of placidus but never seen one that is brown or one that has little teeth in the mandibles.
Lucanus placidus x elaphus !!! (an idea borrowed from our tiger beetle friends)

Pentagonal clypeus indicates that this is a major male of L. placidus.
L. elaphus has triangular clypeus.

Look at the front legs. L. elaphus males have much slender legs with different spine arrangements.
